Home Sweet Home.

Cupcake ornament | Sally's Baking Addiction

Wooo-eee! It’s been almost a month since I updated you with photos. As book tour travel became more frequent (just got back from Texas!), then a huge spike in traffic on my food blog for the holidays, and now the Christmas baking bonanza– I haven’t had time to do nearly anything besides work! But I’m home this week, settling back into my normal work life. I use the term “normal” very loosely here since my life is completely absurd.

A Houston reader gave me this mug at my book signing on Saturday. 😍

My heart is in Houston coffee mug!

Since arriving home from Texas on Sunday night, I’ve been in the kitchen all day long. I whipped up biscotti, no-bake cookies, and slice ‘n bake cookies. I posted the biscotti on my food blog and will have the last two cookie recipes up on the blog soon, too. This has all been part of my food blog’s annual cookie palooza, a completely over-the-top smorgasbord of cookie recipes leading up to Christmas. I have way to much fun with this each year.

I decorated the house! Well, sort of. I can’t tell you how good it feels to finally put our wreath on the door, get out the scarves and mittens, light some festive candles, and work on the tree.

These tiny ornaments are from Target– I like to display them instead of putting them on the tree. Just because they’re so darn cute. And OMG the colors and glitter.

Look! My mom needlepointed this for Jude. Easily the best ornament on the tree. As you can see, it’s also one of the only ornaments on the tree. Still working on that!

He loves it. Can’t you tell?

That’s about it for now! I’ll load some more recent pictures up soon.

Q: Have you baked any holiday cookies yet? Or put up the tree?

Most shot with my Canon 5D Mark iii & Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens, some shot with my iPhone.

  1. I get to go home tomorrow night, and I’m so looking forward to it! The tree is going up this week, and there will be tons of baking happening over the next couple weeks. Basically everyone I can think of will be getting a tray of treats I hope you enjoy your time at home, even if it’s crazy!

  2. These are really sweet photos. I enjoyed them 🙂

  3. I love seeing your photos Sally, especially Jude. He is such a handsome boy!

  4. My boyfriend surprised me with a tree this year and we put up our tiny ornaments with some DIY ribbon wreaths too. I love seeing my tree light up at night and I like to use it as a giant night light.

  5. These pics are great Sally and welcome home! I agree! It feels great to finally get the decorations up (although my 2 dogs are always in disarray when setting up trees “inside”…huh mom?). I can’t wait to try some of your cookie recipes….the pictures alone got my mouth watering! Again, congrats on your 2nd publication….Saundra gave Hannah a copy for me :). Happy Holidays and ‘try’ to get some down time with Jude and the family!

  6. Love! Did your mom make the pattern herself or did she use a template? I’m working on a needlepoint gift myself, so I was curious what other crafters do too! (Silly question, I know.)

  7. Love that Houston mug!  Great pictures, I’m so far behind on Christmas decorating…I have yet to start! Happy Holidays to you and your family.

  8. Christmas tree is up! Went up a week ago and I feel so much more in the Christmas spirit now! Have been baking up a storm – haven’t tried any of your Christmas cookie palooza baking yet. However made some candy cane peppermint fudge on the weekend, and also made the Peppermint Mocha cupcakes for a work shout on Tuesday. Managed to melt chocolate with some peppermint essence and made into little present, bell and start decorations for the top with moulds! Looked so pretty 🙂 Gosh I’m terrible – I hardly ever bake any of your recipes twice, usually once I’ve mastered one I’m onto the next one! Decorating the Christmas Wreath you shared form Cookies & Cups today for a dinner at a friends tonight. Thank you for all your baking wisdom and inspiration! Hope you are loving being home after being away <3

  9. I feel so behind on holiday baking… As soon as vacation starts I will be running to the store for ingredients! I am planning on using the chocolate cookie dough for your inside out cookies and use peppermint chips

  10. These photos (especially Jude) are great!
I believe Christmas is the most festive/enjoyable holiday because of all the decorations and rituals. It’s just the best time of the year 🙂
    Enjoy your Christmas Sally

  11. Hi Sally, I know in your past photography blog you mentioned having used the Canon EOS Rebel T2i. I’m just starting out with food photography…is this a good learning camera. I’m a DSLR virgin 🙂
