Spring Fever.

spring fever | Sally's Baking Addiction

We hit that sweet spot in April when it’s just starting to warm up. Nothing in this world feels better than rolling the car windows down and finally breaking out that outdoor furniture on the front porch! Pair this with all the cleaning out I’ve been doing for our upcoming move… life feels refreshed. 🙂

I’ve been shooting nonstop with my new lens: the canon 24-70mm f/2.8. It’s incredible for real life photography. Aka not food! But, of course, also fantastic for food too… especially when you have an entire “scene” you want to capture. But I just love the zoom for when I’m out and about shooting nature, travel, dogs, people, etc. And the bokeh with a larger aperture (like down to f/2.8) is gorgeous.

Lots happening right now: I just got back from Minnesota where I visited with friends and attended a photography workshop. More on that workshop soon! Our friends who live there just got a cockapoo puppy, Cooper. (Oh my gosh when I was texting my friends about the puppy, my phone kept autocorrected to cockatoo. Major confusion for a hot sec in our conversations.)

Look at him! I resisted every single urge to take him home with me.

Earlier this month, we visited some friends down in DC, did some exploring, and then spent some quiet time at our new house, slowly moving things in.

  1. This weeks marks the last week of my semester, so I feel like I’ve been going nonstop since March like you! My birthday is coming up in a couple weeks though so I’m very excited to be able to relax for a few days 🙂 Hope to run into you in the city soon!! <3

  2. Sally these pictures are incredible! The glass of wine is my favorite…so crisp and clear…great detail (love what’s in the glass too! LOL). I got out on a trout fishing excursion this weekend and took nice pics of the blooming trees and the water falls, babbling creeks, nice nature pics. But my Bokeh wasn’t set that low…Since I’m just beginning I use my 18-55mm lens for most and my 50mm for food. I may have to see if I can get one of these lens at my local Cardinal Shop used perhaps. Great Pics! Keep up the great job!

  3. It’s always good to know when you need to step back and regroup because typically what follows is a fantastic creative surge! Your enthusiasm, techniques, food and photos inspire me to do the same. Love the puppy, love the new lens, love the shoes, LOVE the pancakes!

  4. These shots are absolutely gorgeous Sally! I’m glad things are looking like Spring for everyone else – where I live, it’s been Spring weather for almost a month! April’s been a super busy month for me, I haven’t had much time to bake so I’m planning a little “baking marathon” next weekend to catch up 🙂 and I’ve been getting out a lot to go for walks and just try to enjoy the beauty of nature through the stresses of work and school and all that.

  5. That puppy is SO adorable.  I’m dying at that little chubby picture of him under the table.  <3  So so so cute!  Also, that picture of the wine glass is STUNNING.  Having the wine so sharp in the foreground and having the rest of the background in bokeh is amazing.  Thanks for sharing the great photos!

  6. When I grow up, I want to be as happy as Jude is in that picture LOL. Look at his face!!! <3

  7. What nice pictures!! I bought a new camera and am trying to figure it out. We went to Hawaii in September and took some very nice pictures and they turned out beautiful but it was the luck of the draw, I think. 🙂 Now that I have seen your photos, I have to get busy and concentrate on mine. I love your first cookbook, don’t have the second one yet.

  8. Love these. The American Flag …favorite.

What do you use for processing?
I love the feel of all of these.

  9. Just got back from the Bahamas for our 1st year anniversary!! It was awesome! I just want to be back on the beach. The water is so clear we went snorkeling and swam with sharks. I have no idea where I got up the courage but I’ll never ever forget it. And spending time with my husband in that beautiful place it was like a dream 🙂

  10. Oh and….I took a bunch of pictures the first day with my Canon EOS and the 2nd day there I realized I forgot the battery charger! DOH! ok so note to self never try to mail anything to the Bahamas quickly, it won’t make it!! BOO HOO! but I did get some cool shots of the private island owned by Sandals and the sunset. Luckily my husband remembered the charger for the underwater camera too so all was not lost!! I also took some photos of the Texas Blue Bonnets earlier this month with my new macro lens and got some awesome bee shots…….Photography is a passion I share with you!

    • Forgetting the battery so far from home is the worst! I bet you got some awesome underwater shots. You were able to swim with sharks?! Crazy brave of you!

      Happy anniversary! 🙂

  11. That puppy is SO adorable! I want one 😀 And then I could cuddle him all day 😉

Gorgeous photo of those tulips! I always enjoy reading your photography posts to see where you’ve been, love that you travel so much 🙂

I just got back from a week in St. Petersburg in Russia, which was amazing! It was my first time in Russia and was amazed how different it was from what I expected: beautiful grand palaces everywhere, vast avenues, clean streets and friendly people. Oh and LOVED the food! Ate as much delicious local food as I could 🙂

This month I’ll be planning our house renovations and next month we’ll be flying to Rome for a couple of sunny days, can’t wait! 🙂
