Backyard BBQ.

summer backyard bbq

My first of many, many, many backyard BBQs this summer. We kicked it off with the fam! Roasted s’mores, grilled up some grub, and camped in the backyard with our niece and nephews.

On the menu:

  • Hamburgers + hot dogs
  • Salmon on the grill, marinated in this garlic honey ginger sauce.
  • Caprese salad made with fresh basil (I have an herb garden! I’m obsessed with it!), mozzarella, tomatoes, and balsamic reduction– I didn’t have the chance to make balsamic reduction, so I just bought a bottle at the store.
  • My sister-in-law’s pasta salad which was this Harvest Grains Blend, leftover corn, edamame, pepitas for crunch, chives, and a dressing of extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice she poured on the grains while they were still warm. It was SO good.
  • Corn on the cob, chips + salsa, hummus + veggies, watermelon
  • Chocolate chip cookie pizza!!
  • And, of course, s’mores.

PS: that cutie is Vash, Jude and Franklin’s teeny tiny chihuahua cousin. 😉

  1. I think I’m starting to love your photography blog almost as much as your baking blog! Your dogs are just too much!!

  2. My future father-in-law makes the best salmon on the grill! Love! So healthy & delicious!

  3. Oh I’m so envious of your herb garden! It’s my dream to have one some day, enjoy your garden and the backyard BBQs, summer is truly great when you live in a house 😀

  4. I never really thought myself a little dog person. I’ve just always had rotties, and bigger dogs like that. We have a great dane boxer mix, a beagle heeler mix, a shihtzu(10yr old first dog we got), and last year for my b-day hubby got me 2 chihuahua puppies. I have decided chi’s are my new favorite breed, next to danes. That puppy you have is adorable. But of course Jude is the star of the show.

  5. Hi Sally! Congrats on your first of MANY BBQ’s. I too have an Herb garden FILLED with Basil, Basil and more Basil. Then there’s thyme and chives too of course but I’m obsessed with Basil! So……the Salmon! What is that wood that it’s on? Does that give a smoked flavor? PLEASE share ! Loved that smoked flavor on, well, everything! 🙂

    • It’s a cedar plank. You need to soak it in water for at least an hour before going on the grill. It does give the fish a little bit of a smokier flavor.

  6. Ok, um, my BBQs have never looked like that. That’s some magazine spread worthy food there!

  7. Your photos are so beautiful! I feel like I’m right there at the barbecue!!

  8. Your pictures are gorgeous! Please do a house tour video when it’s done! 😀

  9. Love the pictures of your dogs, especially the one of you holding Franklin!! I know this is not a typical post for you, but could you do a post on dog training tips?
