Snowy Adventure

Snowy Adventures in Deep Creek Lake | Sally's Baking Addiction

Seems a little silly that I’m sharing winter wonderland photos in the middle of April! But, truth is, this was only a month ago. We were hit pretty badly with a snowstorm in Maryland and, luckily, it was the same week we had a mini vacation planned. Enter snowy paradise. We had a blast in Deep Creek Lake!

Deep Creek Lake is where Kevin proposed 4 years ago, so it’s a very special place for us.

We adventured there after I handed in my Sally’s Cookie Addiction manuscript. (Pre-order surprise and details coming soon!) I wrote most of the manuscript during my first trimester of pregnancy and was in MAJOR NEED of a getaway. Where I could rest, sleep, eat, rest, sleep, eat, then sleep some more. Surrounded by over a foot of fresh powder, we sunk into total vacation mode. A few hikes here and there, but mostly TV marathons, popcorn, and pup playtime.

We stayed in a serene lakefront rental home and since it’s the off-season, there was no one around to block any beautiful snowy views. The temps got so low by the end of the week that the lake began freezing over.

Though staying under the covers when it’s this chilly outside was tempting, our hikes around Swallow Falls were the best part of the week.

Can you spot a Franklin? ↓

Born in Colorado, Jude is a natural snow bunny. HE LOVES it.

Baby Franklin, on the other hand, is simply curious and confused.

And now I’m very ready for spring!

  1. You know I’m a LAKE LIFE LADY! Love these pics (minus the snow because I too am ready for this warmer weather we are having!). I just took some really cool pics of the stream that runs through our Lake Home and with all the moisture from the snow and the rain, the stream was flowing just like your pics above! I love the sound of water…nothing more comforting or soothing……except maybe a brownie or caramel latte or apple pie :). Beautiful pics, Sally!

  2. Beautiful pictures, Sally. I just love Jude and Franklin . . . they always bring a smile to my face. Talk about a peaceful setting – I could just see/feel the stress falling off of you in waves. Thank you for sharing a little piece of paradise. ~smile~

  3. Enjoyed reading your post about Deep Creek Lake. We have lived in Florida for 30 year but we are from Morgantown, WV not far from Deep Creek Lake. We love the Swallow Falls area and spent our honeymoon – there soon to be 48 years ago so it was nice to see some pictures.

  4. These are beautiful pictures. Like Sue from above, we live east of Morgantown, WV and have driven through Deep Creek many times. We have not stayed there, but it is indeed beautiful. I was wondering if this was the same Deep Creek close to us. Now I know it is. Thanks for the beautiful pictures.

  5. Beautiful pictures.  My grand dog loves the snow too!

  6. I love the pictures.  Makes me miss the lake ❤️

  7. Awwwww! Franklin looks like such a grown up! <3 Thanks for sharing, Sally!

  8. What a serene, peaceful setting to unwind and spend some quality time with Kevin and the pups 🙂 That home looks so inviting, I could have easily spent a few days/weeks there and that view! Gorgeous!! Thank you for sharing! I crave forest walks and until I can go for a hike these photos will have to do 😉

  9. Beautiful pics Sally of our beautiful state. I also live in Maryland (born and raised) near Frederick. I am embarrassed to say that I have never been to Deep Creek. It is on my bucket list and your pictures give me the urge. My Mom’s family is from Albany/Saratoga NY area and we always spent summer’s at my Grandma’s lake house (now my Uncle’s) up there so we never made it to Deep Creek. It sounds like you all and the dogs had a great time. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  10. Absolutely love the pictures. I live in Tennessee and scenes like this in West TN are rare. I love the snow and winter pictures!! Excellent pictures!!

  11. I love Deep Creek Lake we vacation there every summer!  After seeing your gorgeous pictures of it in the winter, I need to plan a winter get away sometime.

  12. That picture of baby Franklin where you say he is curious and confused…priceless!!!
